Barker House Homestead

The Nationally Registered Historic Barker Homestead serves as the headquarters for the Save the Dunes non-profit organization and provides a peaceful setting within the urban fabric of Michigan City. The master plan was developed to promote the native landscaping and land stewardship principles of the organization, while improving access, expanding programming possibilities and general day to day staff use. The project site is surrounded by local land trust properties with over a mile of woodland trails, with locations for outdoor classroom trailheads.

The planning process provided in depth site history, inventory and analysis in conjunction with organization and staff interviews. Layout alternates were evaluated and a final preferred plan with phasing strategies was adopted in summer 2025.
